Boys Bedroom Design

As I was creating this design board, my goal was to design a boy's bedroom that could easily transition from pre-teen to college with minimal changes. For instance, an 11 year old may need Lego storage, a 17 year old will want to replace the wall decor with his favorite band's posters, but the core pieces will stay the same. Heck, this bedroom could move with him to his first apartment. I could totally see a 22 year old guy in this room! From Legos to apartment in 10 years…man, does it go by fast or what?

Rug- The foundation for this boys bedroom design is a gorgeous hand knotted rug from Revival. The colors are awesome, it was handmade from recycled sari silk, and will bring a ton of character to the space. It is one of a kind, but they have similar rugs available. If this one is sold out, check the site for a close match.

Pillow- Another soulful handmade piece, this pillow cover isn't one of a kind, but it is in limited quantities. I grabbed one for my own bedroom. I can't wait to see it in person!

Bed- You get a ton of quality and classic design for the buck with this bed. I've owned it (in gray) for 6 years, and I still love it. I'd buy another in a heartbeat!

Bed linens- duvet cover, striped sheets

Bedside tables- simple design and storage in a black wood to break up the brown tones in the room

Table Lamps- the sculptural design is young and fun, but the real reason I chose them is for the USB port and outlet at the base. Convenient for all the tech he has currently and in the future.

Curtains- (similar) velvet texture in a grayish brown to cozy up this boys bedroom design

Lounge chair- The brown pops off the navy blue, and it's a great chair for reading, playing video games, or an extra seat for friends.

Desk- The industrial/modern shape of this desk is just so sharp looking (side note: I'm trying to bring back “sharp” into popular culture. No luck so far). It's a really good size for growing into. A future/currently 6’2 guy could study here, for sure.

Desk chair- a comfortable chair is important!

Dresser- I went with a tall dresser because he needs all the space he can get in his sleep/study/play/hang room.

Wall Art- I chose a space themed wall hanging and print because one of my boys is very into space. They could easily be swapped out for something more fitting the interests of the boy who lives here.

Faux Plant- every room needs greenery, and he's not going to water anything real.

I want to end with a note about categories. I call this a “boys bedroom design” for organizational purposes, and for anyone looking for “traditionally masculine” inspiration. As a mom to boys who fall into this category, I can tell you there's very little out there for us! (Why is that?) However, as an adult woman who also falls into this category a little bit, I want to point out that this design is for everyone! If you love it, make it happen!

I'd love to see this design in action! If you end up purchasing any of my recommendations, please tag @rockyhilldesigns and use #rockyhillhomestyle to show off your style!
