Brining in new decor is one of my favorite ways to usher in a new season. However, if I’m not looking for a complete redesign of my space (and I most likely am not), the decor swaps I make are simple. Not many of us can just start from scratch every 3-4 months, nor do we want to! Okay, sometimes I want to, but my bank account certainly doesn’t.
Transitioning your home from winter to spring doesn’t take an expensive overhaul. It’s about lightening things up and adding the freshness of the season to your decor. Read on for some ideas to bring spring in, without it feeling too theme-ish or spending much money. In fact, you may already own the decor you need for and inviting spring aesthetic, and can reuse this year’s investments for many springs to come.
From Heavy Textiles to Breathable Cotton and Linen
Swap Your Pillow Covers
Take my advice, invest in quality pillow covers. If your budget is tight, wait for a good sale, but you’ll be glad you splurged on those linen pillow covers after the 2nd or 3rd seasonal transition. A cheap pillow cover may get you through one season before it starts showing wear and tear, whereas quality, well made options will look great for a decade, maybe more! I have a small stack of pillow covers for spring/summer and fall/winter that I cycle through every year. Linen and cotton are great breathable fabrics for the warmer seasons.

Row 2: Textured Striped Cotton Cover, May Linen Pillow, Wilhelmina Pillow Cover
Row 3: Classic Linen Cover, Fransen Linen Cotton Pillow, Faye Linen Textured Pillow
Row 4: Belgian Linen Pillow, Washed Basketweave Pillow Cover, Overlaid Stripe Pillow Cover
Stow Away Your Winter Curtains
Same goes for curtains. In the winter, I use heavy drapes to keep the cold out and increase my home’s cozy factor, but spring calls for semi-sheers, or linen blackout curtains. While I don’t put cutrains in the “invest” category, I do think having pairs of warm weather and cold weather curtains is a great opportunity to create a dramatic change with minimal effort come Spring Cleaning season.
Transitioning from Dried Botanicals to Living Greenery
Time to send the pine and cypress stems to storage! Spring is the season for adding more house plants, fresh flower arrangements, or their lifelike faux counterparts. Grab your favorite vases and set your spring greenery in the rooms where you spend the most time. Instant mood booster!
Shifting the Sensory Experience
Which leads me to scent. I love using a home fragrance shift to signal a change of seasons in my home. Even before the warm weather arrives, lighter scents have the power to completely change the energy in a space. For spring, try floral or citrus scents in candles and diffusers.
By focusing on texture, scent, and natural elements in your decorating, you’ll find it just takes a few simple updates to freshen up your home and coordinate the inside with the change of season outside.
